Robert Allen Johnson passed away on July 3, 2026, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Born on March 14, 1948, in Columbus, Ohio, Robert was a lifelong educator, community volunteer, and devoted family man whose commitment to service and learning shaped the lives of many.

Robert’s distinguished career spanned more than 35 years as a high school history teacher at Franklin Central High School. He was deeply passionate about helping students understand American history and took great joy in witnessing his students discover connections to the past. Known both for his engaging sense of humor in the classroom and his unwavering kindness, Robert modeled what it meant for knowledge and compassion to walk hand in hand. He was regarded as a mentor by many former students and colleagues, always ready to lend a helping hand and share a story that brought history to life.

His commitment to learning and service continued in retirement through his volunteer work at the local historical society. Robert’s love of history was infectious, inspiring those around him to consider the significance of heritage and community. He believed strongly that kindness mattered more than anything else, and he approached every interaction—whether with students, neighbors, or passersby—with sincere warmth and generosity.

Robert proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970 during the Vietnam era. He cherished his military service throughout his life, regarding it as a profound period of duty and personal growth. His sense of honor and integrity was reflected in every facet of his life thereafter.

Beyond his professional and military accomplishments, Robert enriched his life and the lives of those he loved through meaningful connections and traditions. He shared 54 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Linda, traveling together and building a life filled with shared adventures and mutual support. Robert was a dedicated father to Emily and David, and welcomed his in-laws Michael and Rachel into the family with open arms. His five grandchildren—Ethan, Olivia, Mason, Claire, and Lucas—were his pride and joy. Robert never missed one of their school events, and treasured every moment spent with them, whether fishing, woodworking, or reading together. Saturday college football, particularly Ohio State games, were a source of great excitement, and became a family tradition he eagerly anticipated each fall.

He is survived by his wife Linda Johnson; children Emily Johnson and her spouse Michael, and David Johnson and his spouse Rachel; grandchildren Ethan, Olivia, Mason, Claire, and Lucas; and his sister, Carol Bennett. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, William and Margaret Johnson, and his brother, Thomas Johnson.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during visitation hours on July 9, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home in Ogden, Utah. A funeral service will be held on July 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Following the service, burial with military honors will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery, Oak Street, Ogden, UT 84401.
